Armadillos will stay motionless when they sense a creature walking nearby. However, if they feel they are in danger they will begin to claw and bite. The start of May signifies that summer is fast approaching. While for us that means putting on sunscreen and enjoying the pool, for wild animals it means that they start to exhibit different behaviors. Here are a few things to watch for during summer in Texas.

Babies- Although spring is considered when the majority of newborn births happen, they really do continue into the summer. Rainfall aligns with the heat and creates the ideal environment for babies to thrive. If you see a baby wandering around on your property, be aware that there is a good chance that mom is somewhere close by.

Sunshine- Wild animals run on the sun and unless they are nocturnal, they will be moving around a lot more than they would in the wintertime. The days are longer and the heat can also mean that they need to increase the amount of food that they need so don’t be surprised to see critters moving until it gets dark.

High Temperatures- It gets hot in Texas, and the heat also affects the animals. When temperatures increase, they start to seek shelter in anyplace that will provide them a cool place to rest.
